The Edo State Police Command has arrested one Jimoh Odion over the murder of a youth leader in the Etsako East Local Government Area of the state, Mognews has reported
The sad incident occurred in Jattu community.
Odion was alleged to have laid an ambush for the victim, Atogwe Asilemhe, and hit him with a hoe.
The suspect was also alleged to have severed Asilemhe head with a cutlass.
Mognews learnt that the suspect fled the scene and hid in a church.
It was further gathered that the corpse of the victim was later discovered by a man who had contracted him (Asilemhe) for a job.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, who paraded the suspect in Benin on Wednesday, said that the victim was murdered on his way to work.
Kokumo also said that the suspect acted alone.
He stated, “On October 14 at 2:04 pm, one Atogwe Osilema of Ayogwiri community in Edo State reported at Jattu police station that on the same date, about 12pm, his younger brother, one Atogwe Asilemhe, aged 46, was attacked with a cutlass and beheaded by one Jimoh Odion on his way to work.
“Subsequently, he was arrested and interrogated. He confessed to the crime that he committed the act alone.”
But Odion explained that the deceased had mocked him for not taking part in a community ceremony.
He said, “I killed him. I do not know what came over me because we did not have any problem.
“He mocked me for not participating in the community age group initiation due to issues with the traditional ruler. After that, I did not know what I was doing.”
