Mou: Now I talk about Utd with joy and freedom, I could return as coach in July

Jose Mourinho says that the way things ended for him at Manchester United means that he can talk about them “in the same joy and freedom” as the other clubs he managed.

The Portuguese was sacked in December following a dismal run of form that left United struggling to maintain a top six place in the Premier League.

They then dramatically improved following the interim appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, beating Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and looking as though a top four place was within their grasp, only to fall away again at the end of the season, finishing sixth.

“It’s difficult for me to talk about Manchester,” Mourinho told French outlet RMC Sport on Friday.

“I can’t talk about them in the same joy and freedom as I talk about others [clubs].”

Mourinho added that United’s dramatic Champions League victory over PSG in March – which came after they lose the first 2-0 – was only possible because the French champions underestimated Solskjaer’s side.

“I think PSG was not ready for what happened,” he continued.

“For me they did not prepare themselves in the most serious way for a Champions League match.”

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss added that he hopes to be back in the dugout before the beginning of the 2019/20 season.

“I have a lot of qualities and one of them is to respect other clubs and their management,” he continued.

“I have never spoken like ‘this club wanted me, they contacted me.’

“When I left Manchester United in December, I immediately took the decision I want to work from summer.

“I hope to be back to work in July in a project I really like.”
